91 Louisians receive sacrament of Confirmation

The sacrament is called Confirmation because the faith given in Baptism is now confirmed and made strong.

One of the activities for the Vocation Month 2019 was the celebration of sacrament of Confirmation held last Sept. 21 with the theme: “I have called you by name, you are mine.”

The different departments of the University joined in the celebration of the Sacrament with a total of 91 confirmands composed of 69 pupils and three faculty members from the elementary; 18 students from the junior high school; and one student from college.

Archbishop Sergio L. Utleg, D.D., was the presider during the Holy Mass. Fr. Renillo H. Sta. Ana, CICM, Fr. Thiago O. Silva, CICM, and a deacon of the archdiocese of Tuguegarao were the co-celebrants.

Archbishop Utleg said, “May the Holy Spirit, who confirmed the apostles on Pentecost, give you the courage to practice your faith. May you be reminded of your participation in the ministry and mission of Jesus and be strengthened to follow Jesus more closely.”

The Catholic being confirmed stands before the bishop, and the sponsor lays one hand on the shoulder of the one being confirmed.

The Confirmation name is spoken by the bishop and puts Chrism Oil on the confirmand’s forehead, says his/ her name aloud, and then says, “Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

The confirmand responds, “Amen.” The bishop then says, “Peace be with you.” And the confirmand responds, “And with your Spirit.”
