To coincide with the Women’s Month, the College Guidance Center slated the 2017 Cine Juana Film Festival last March 20-24 to showcase and celebrate women empowerment and the various roles that women play in the society.

The event was an open invitation to interested college students.

With the assistance of the University Libraries Multimedia Center, five movie selections featuring women empowerment, gender equality, and issues confronting women in the marginalized and vulnerable sectors were provided to students. The movies were: An Education, Bad Teacher, China Cry, From Prada to Nada, and Hidden Figures.  Only two movies were shown to cater to the number of enlisted students, March 24.

After the film viewing, reflections and insights from the movies were gathered by Mrs. Jinky C. Ramos, guidance counselor of the School of Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, and Information Technology Education (SEAIDITE) followed by discussions on the challenges faced by women and on women empowerment.

Launched in December 2015 during the 18-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW), the first Cine Juana Film Festival was opened to the public for free at the National Center for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Auditorium in Intramuros, Manila. It showcased films that deal with the issue of violence against women, followed by an open forum.
