“This is the moment!” – so ardent was the feeling of the honorees of the second Gawad San Luis.
Last June 27, 2016 at the James Ter Meer Gymnasium, all employees of the University of Saint Louis (USL) held a celebration of excellence and service to pay homage to this year’s recognized honorees.
Dr. Delailah B. Valencia, the University President, was honored for her 30 continuous years of “fruitful and dedicated service to the University.” It should be noted, though, that Dr. Valencia has actually rendered 36 years of service to USL if not for “a needed personal leave to attend to an equally noble family concern.”
“I put my heart and soul to finish what I have to do, working beyond the expected time,” she shared in her speech.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ferdinand N. Cortez suggested that the term “retirement honorees” is rather proper in addressing his colleagues who recently decided to retire this year. “We should never be called retirees but retirement honorees.”
Aside from the Gawad San Luis for Service, other Gawad San Luis awards were also granted: Academic Excellence, Professional Excellence, Special Institutional Achievement, and Acceleration in Rank.
