The University of Saint Louis (USL), through its Center for Social Innovation, Local Knowledge and Educational Research (CSILKER) and in coordination with the University Research and Development Center (URDC), School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Professional Development, conducted the 1st International Conference in Teacher Education and Research last May 29-June 1, 2019 at the Bulwagang Teodulfo Domingo.

With the conference theme: “Quality Education through Quality Research,” 52 studies and researches from different basic and higher institutions were presented orally under the following categories: Teaching and Learning (24), Language and Literature (12), Special Topics (8), Management and Supervision (4), and Pre-service Teachers’ Education (4).

USL President Rev. Fr. Renillo H. Sta. Ana, CICM, delivered his message and welcomed the participants during the opening program of the said event.

Four plenary sessions were conducted during the four-day conference.

Dr. Julieta M. Paras, CESE, director of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 2, discussed “Research in Higher Education: Opportunities and Challenges.”

USL Vice President for Academics Dr. Emmanuel James P. Pattaguan tackled “Teacher Education in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

Dr. Roberto C. Pagulayan, executive director of the Center for Research and Development of Angeles University Foundation (AUF) and director of CHED-Higher Education Regional Research Center (CHED-HERRC), threw light on “Teacher Education and Research: Publication to ISI and SI Indexed Journals.”

Dr. Safary Wa-Mbaleka, president of Asian Qualitative Research Association, talked on “Qualitative Research in Education.”

The conference specifically aimed at updating the participants, who were composed of scholars as well as basic and higher education teachers, on the status of the teaching profession in the Philippines.

The event also paved way for the participants to share their studies and understand the role of teacher education researches in the promotion of sustainable development.

A discussion on the different processes and methodologies in conducting basic and action researches was likewise undertaken.

The CHED, Department of Education (DepEd), International Journal of Humanities and Social Development Research, and Global Partnership and Analytical Research Center were the conference partners of USL.
