Reunion, rejoice, and remember! The University of Saint Louis alumni had an amazing time reconnecting and celebrating at the Grand Alumni Homecoming 2022.
Former USL students from batches 1969 to 2022 returned to their alma mater on December 28, 2022, and filled their day reminiscing about the good old days with their peers while making new friends and memories.
The Louisian community gathered at the Good Shepherd Chapel for a Eucharistic service and later at the James Ter Meer Gymnasium for the program proper, headlined by the celebrating golden jubilarians, the 1972 high school batch, and the silver jubilarians, the 1997 high school batch.
Rev. Fr. Renillo H. Sta Ana, CICM, opened the program by acknowledging everyone and noting the significance of homecoming. “I believe our homecoming would like to refresh us anew with that spirit of love and charity built in us during our days here in the then Saint Louis College of Tuguegarao and now the University of Saint Louis.”
A tribute to the golden jubilarians followed the opening, in which they were given certificates and souvenirs. In his message, Mr. Lincoln Pobre, the batch 1972 representative, shared the honor with the school and their teachers, families, communities, and the people around them, who played important roles in their formation to be the people they are today. “When we look back at our lives, we are proud, and we can say that we are good and upright people. This is a testament to the kind of Louisian education we received.”
“Our generation has lived the prime and productive part of our lives. We made our mark, and though we’re still living and kicking, we will continue to make our legacy. So from an older generation to the new, younger generations, we encourage you to take this opportunity not just to celebrate but also to reflect on your lives. We challenge you to live your life in a way that will make you and our alma mater proud,” he concluded.
Mrs. Melany de Guzman-Rey, batch 1997 president, then led the alumni pledge and manifesto, which signifies their full support for the mission of the university.
Inspirational Speaker Atty. Reinier R. Yebra, high school batch 1997 alumni and 2009 bar topnotcher, underlined the life lessons he learned from his mistakes and shortcomings as a student. He shared that he takes time to reflect on his mistakes, identify their impact on his life, and make resolutions so that he can do better next time.
“I learned a lot of lessons from my mistakes. When I grew older, I realized that I should be sharing my lessons with others and that I should be serving our kababayan (fellow countrymen).”
Following the inspirational message, batch 1997 alumni paid a tribute to their former teachers and turned over the key of responsibility for the next homecoming host to the 1998 high school batch.
The host, the 1997 high school batch, delighted the audience with zestful performances, ice breakers, and raffle draws. Mr. Sander T. Sedano, USL-LMS Coordinator, and Mrs. Luisa B. Aquino, EAP for Institutional Development and Quality Assurance, served as the masters of ceremonies.
