The school year was definitely a fruitful year for the University of Saint Louis (USL) collegiate publication, The Louisian Courier (TLC), as its papers and scribes garnered awards at the 16th Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference (LHEPC) held in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on Feb. 22-24, 2017.
In the Group Category, TLC bagged the following awards: 3rd Best Tabloid having the Best Opinion Page, Best Page Design and Layout, 3rd Best Feature Page, 4th Best News Page, 7th Best Literary Page, and 8th Best Sports Page; 4thBest Newsletter as it got the awards for Best News Page, Best Opinion Page, 5th Best Literary Page, and 8th Best Sports Page; 8th Best Magazine after getting the awards for Best Cover Design, 5th Best Page Design and Layout, and 7th Best Literary Page; while the Literary Folio placed 6th in Best Cover Design.
TLC Sports Editor Marr Fernand Fortades, in spite of being a first-timer in the competition, was hailed as the Champion in Sports Writing (Filipino); graduating staff members, Editor-in-Chief Guiller Ed Vega placed 2nd in Opinion Writing (Filipino) and Associate Editor Nikky Bryan Taguibao landed 3rd place in Sports Writing (English) and 8th place in Comic Strip (English); while News Editor Cristine Joy Castro got 7th place in News Writing (English).
Miss Charina Vargas, TLC adviser, coached the Louisian campus journalists.
The 16th LHEPC ran with the theme “Propelling Change through Empowered Campus Journalism.”
