Twofold Festivity: USL hosts 5th CICM Schools Friendship Meet, revels 51st University Founding Anniversary

On February 10-14, 2016, the University of Saint Louis (USL) held a twofold festivity hosting the 5th CICM Schools Friendship Meet, a gathering of all Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary or Congregatio Immaculati Cordis Mariae (CICM) schools nationwide, and the reveling of the University’s 51st Founding Anniversary cum the closing of its Golden Jubilee.

Delegates from the different CICM schools, namely: Saint Louis College (San Fernando City, La Union), Saint Louis College-Cebu (Mandaue City), Saint Mary’s University (Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya), Saint Louis University (Baguio City), and University of Saint Louis (Tuguegarao City) feasted together for the friendship meet as they showcased their smarts, talents and sportsmanship in academic, socio-cultural and sports events.

The meet’s theme “Makkorofun, Makkarauffun,” two Ybanag terms for friendship and support, respectively, was meant to make the CICM schools’ students, teachers, coaches, parents, and administrators bolster fellowship and affinity with one another.

The four presidents of the CICM schools (Rev. Fr. Sta. Ana of SMU; Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, of SLC-SFLU and SLU; Dr. Valencia of USL; and Rev. Fr. Fernold G. Denna, CICM, of SLC-Cebu) light the friendship flame.

Simultaneously, USL celebrated its Foundation Days on Feb. 11-14, 2016. Several events took place during the occasion to include: Couture and Body Art Contest, Trio La Diva Contest, Jump Street Competition, Cheer and Dance Competition, and Cultural Presentations.

As a culminating highlight, the Valentine Festival of Lights was held on Feb. 14. USL students and employees, who were joined by the other CICM schools’ delegates, paraded around the Tuguegarao City proper on Valentine’s Day with their themed-lanterns.
