With the desire to prepare the program chairs, area coordinators, directors, and other heads of offices, Dr. Emmanuel James P. Pattaguan, VP for Academics, conducted a one-day crash course in administration and supervision dubbed “Leadership Enhancement and Advancement towards Development in USL” on July 12, 2019 at the N Hall of the University of Saint Louis (USL).

The training started with an invocation led by Mr. Severo L. Washington, Christian Formation Education (CFED) department head, followed by the opening remarks delivered by Dr. Pattaguan.

Dr. Pattaguan gave a discussion on the following topics: a) Functions and Scope of School Administration; b) Functions and Scope of School Supervision; c) Organizational System and Human Behavior; and d) Institutional Culture.

Prior the workshop, the school leaders wrote their expectations in metacards which Dr. Pattaguan read for the goal setting activity.

As a reflection on the concepts on educational leadership, the participants shared their leadership experiences and challenges in their respective offices.

Dr. Pattaguan emphasized about providing a “signature experience” to internal and external clients through quality schemes and procedures. He also introduced series of educational assessments and trends which will be implemented by the academic group effective school year 2019-2020.

When asked about his learning insight from the training, Engr. Ariel M. Lorenzo, Electronics Engineering program chair, said, “The training blazed the spirit of leadership within me as this is very timely and necessary as I take the challenge as one of the entrusted leaders of USL. As always, Sir James was able to move us again to be more passionate and selfless in the name of service. I am looking forward to the next episode of this LEADS series.”

This was seconded by Ms. Charmaine C. Masuli, College Library head, saying, “Project LEADS paved the way as I accept a bigger role in the University Libraries. The said seminar unleashed various ad extra roles of school leaders that can be emulated. With all the confidence and inspirations gained through the speaker, I am taking this challenge as another opportunity of a lifetime – opportunity that can be appreciated and a mission that can be accomplished.”

The training ended with a closing prayer led by the Business Administration program chair, Mrs. Mary Ann C. Bartolome.

Project LEADS is anticipated to have four parts in the coming school year.
