Tuguegarao City, Philippines – In view of the University of Saint Louis’ (USL’s) continuous commitment towards globalization, the University President, Rev. Fr. Renillo H. Sta. Ana, CICM; the Vice President for Academics, Dr. Emmanuel James P. Pattaguan; and the Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Herbert S. Corpuz went to Myanmar to fulfill the University’s mission to extend expertise to a partner school, the Kachin Theological College and Seminary (KTCS) in Kachin State, North Myanmar from Sept. 24 to 29, 2018.
Dubbed as Leadership Development Program, this extension program for KTCS is supported by the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia (UBCHEA) through a Bamboo Grant of $4,000.
The said program aims to assist KTCS leaders and faculty in the different areas of school operation such as instruction, research, extension, quality assurance, library development, among others.
The USL team conducted training sessions on (1) Attaining Excellence the KTCS Way and Beyond, (2) Leading Schools towards Quality and Excellence, (3) 21st Century Education, and (4) Pedagogy.
The said project was based on a needs assessment conducted when Mr. Corpuz was fielded by the United Board as a visiting lecturer in the said school in 2016. Mr. Nestor Cabrido, the current head of the Social Action Center, followed suit after Mr. Corpuz’s return in 2017.
In culmination, the two schools inked a memorandum of agreement along faculty exchange, student exchange, joint research collaboration, academic seminars, exchange of academic publications and educational materials, and other areas of cooperation considered beneficial to the two parties.
