As an institutional celebration, the University of Saint Louis (USL) faculty and staff convened at the James Ter Meer Gymnasium last Dec. 7, 2018 to recognize this year’s Gawad San Luis honorees.
Prior to the awarding of the honorees, University employees gathered at the Good Shepherd Chapel in the morning of the same day for the Eucharistic celebration of the 2018 Catholic Educators’ Day.
Rev. Fr. Renillo H. Sta. Ana, CICM, USL President, and Rev. Fr. Thiago O. Silva, CICM, Vice President for Mission and Identity, presided the said Mass.
The Gawad San Luis celebration pushed through in the afternoon and commenced with a processional and tribute to employees.
The following are the categories of the said institutional celebration: Award for Academic Achievement, Award for Professional Excellence, Award for Excellence in Research and Creative Works, Acceleration in Rank Award, and Special Institutional Award.
Another category is the Employee Service Award which is given to employees who have rendered a number of years in the University.
Employees who have had 10 or more years of employment in the University were given certificates/plaques of recognition and cash awards. This award is bestowed on a quinquennial schedule.
For this year, a total of 38 employees were awarded, each receiving at least one category award. Meanwhile, three schools were awarded with the Special Institutional Award.
During the event, a retirement tribute was also held to honor all the retirees. Each of the seven retirees received a plaque of recognition and a bust of Saint Louis.
This year’s Gawad San Luis is on its fourth edition. The first Gawad San Luis was held on June 30, 2015; the second on June 27, 2016; and the third on Oct. 18, 2017, all in the same venue.
