USL hosts 2023 CICM Students’ Convergence


Student leaders from the different CICM schools attended the 2023 CICM Students’ Convergence from March 15-18, 2023 at the University of Saint Louis.

The said event was attended by Saint Louis University—Baguio, Saint Louis College—Cebu, Saint Louis College—La Union, Saint Mary’s University—Bayombong, and the University of Saint Louis— Tuguegarao.

USL warmly welcomed the delegates during the opening night on March 15, 2023, hosted by Ms. Michelle Karla Capili and Mr. Onofre Unciano Jr. The delegates enjoyed their socialization dinner as they watched the different performances prepared by USL’s Center for Culture and the Arts, directed by Mr. Fausto Bariuan Jr. The students then socialized with each other and had a short talent portion in which representatives from the different universities showcased their talents.

The first official day of the three-day convergence took place at the Bulwagang Teodulfo Domingo on March 16, 2023. It was hosted by Mr. Zach Xavier Singson, the SSC Associate Secretary, and Ms. Sophia Angelica Corella, the SSC Vice President. The program started with a doxology and Filipinism led by the USL Senior High Chorale, followed by a welcome address from the Executive Assistant to the President, Ms. Luisa Aquino, MSIT.

The plenary session started with the first speaker, Mrs. Rina M. Reyes, Ph.D., assisted by Engr. Ariel Lorenzo, ME-ECE, discussing the topic “A Review of CICM Students’ Attributes: Its Responsiveness to the Call of the Times,” followed by the next speaker, Atty. Domingo Egon Cayosa, the Legal Counsel of USL.

Mr. Marlon C. Gavino, RPsy, the program chair of the Psychology Department of USL, opened the afternoon session with his talk on “Holistic Healing and Hopefulness.” The students then had the chance to share their insights and ask questions about the topic discussed. Mr. Tirso Mangada, the City Councilor of Tuguegarao, was the second speaker and tackled the topic “Upholding Mission and Excellence through Responsible Citizenship and Good Governance.”

The last speaker for the afternoon plenary session was Atty. Glaesan Adriano-Quilang, the Regional Legal Officer of the Department of Agrarian Reform. She discussed the topic “Promoting Mission and Excellence by Preventing Cyberbullying and Misinformation.” The first day concluded with a mass held at the Good Shepherd Chapel presided over by Rev. Fr. Macwayne N. Maniwang, CICM, University President.

The second day commenced with a Zumba Session at the James Ter Meer Gymnasium on March 17, 2023. Afterwards, the students proceeded to their respective groups for the breakout session. The guidance breakout room session was held at N-Building, with Mr. Dominick Agoot, RPsy, a psychology instructor from Isabela State University. He discussed “The 4 C’s: Enhancing your Mental toughness to Improve your Performance, Resilience, and Well-being.” Held in the same room is the sports breakout session with Mr. Giovanni Morales, Ph.D. discussing the “Principles of Sportsmanship with Zumba.”

The leadership breakout session was held at the Bulwagang Andres Nowe led by Mr. Mark Djeron Tumabao, the News Editor of the Philippine Information Agency. He discussed the topic “The Art of Leading and Creating School-based Team Building Activities.” On the other hand, the Culture and Arts breakout session was held at the Bulwagang Teodulfo Domingo with Ms. Kristabelle Geijy Gonzales, the choir master of the SMU Chorale, discussing the new trends in music. In the same room, Mr. Ariel Iringan, a MAPEH Teacher at Cagayan National High School and a National Dance Champion, Talked about creative dancing and held a dance workshop after the session.

The library breakout session was held at the college library with Mr. David Cabonero, MLIS, discussing the topic “Authorship in International Publications: Strengthening Resilience through Research.” Mr. Michael Pinto, MPA, MLIS, the Provincial Library Head, also talked about “Authorship in Innovation: Empowering Individuals towards Impactful Change.”

During the afternoon session, the students held an action planning and team building activity activity. The students then had a reflection and sharing session about their realizations regarding the activity.

The last day of the CICM students Convergence 2023 took place on March 18, 2023, where the students went to BJMP Region 2 at Cataggamman, Tuguegarao City for a program and talk session with the inmates.

Following the activity at BJMP, the students attended a thanksgiving mass for the success of the 2023 Convergence. The organizers then awarded the tokens to the different sister schools and the banner for the next CICM Students Convergence, which was awarded to Saint Louis College—San Fernando, La Union. A closing speech was given by the Acting Dean of Students Affairs and Services, Mrs. Maria Leonora Cagurangan, MAEd. A short lunch reception concluded the event.

The 2023 CICM Students Convergence was an event to remember, where student leaders from various CICM schools made memories that will last a lifetime. From team-building activities to inspiring talks, the three-day event was filled with laughter, learning, and most importantly, the spirit of “One Heart, One Soul, CICM.”
