USL sends visiting prof in Myanmar

The University of Saint Louis, in its desire to further widen its reach in Asia, sent off Mr. Herbert Corpuz, the Community Extension Services Director and a faculty of the School of Education, Arts and Sciences (SEAS) as visiting professor in Kachin Theological College and Seminary (KTCS), North Myanmar.

Mr. Corpuz’s opportunity to be a visiting professor was made possible through the Visiting Lecturers Program (VLP) of the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia (UBCHEA).

UBCHEA is a Christian organization that works in partnership with higher education institutions in 14 countries and regions of Asia. Founded in 1922, the UBCHEA aims to express values such as justice, reconciliation and harmony between ethnic and religious communities, gender equity, care for the environment, and civil society.

VLP is a unique teacher mobility program conceived by the United Board to respond to expressed needs of network institutions in the ASEAN region. It seeks to enable experienced teachers from one country to mentor younger teachers in other institutions of another country. This initiative responds to educational reforms – for better quality teaching and learning, internationalization, and greater academic and cultural integration in the ASEAN Community. The United Board seeks to promote Whole Person Education through faculty exchanges among its network institutions.

Mr. Corpuz’s teaching stint in KTCS is from Nov. 2015 to May 2016. The visiting professor is expected to carry out in KTCS the threefold function of an educator – to instruct, to research and to do extension work.
