The Senior High School of the University of Saint Louis just deployed 803 Grade 12 students for their in-campus work immersion program that took place from February 27 to March 10, 2023.
The students were assigned to different departments and offices inside the University and must render 40 hours for their on-campus work immersion, including their lecture hours. Their deployment was based on their college course preferences.
The students from the Humanities and Social Sciences strand were deployed in the School of Education, Arts, and Sciences department, the Office of Student Affairs and Services, the University Communications and Multimedia Productions office, the Human Resources office, and the Guidance Counselors’ office.
Meanwhile, the students of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (Non-Health) strand were endorsed to the instructors of the School of Engineering, Architecture, and Information Technology Education.
The students of the Accountancy and Business Management strand, as well as the students of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (Health) strand, conducted a symposium in lieu of the in-campus immersion.
The ABM students had their symposium at the New EMC on March 6, 2023. The speakers were Mr. Gabriel Ivan A. Castillo, an alumnus of the SHS, who talked about tips and struggles of being a young entrepreneur, and Raamah Elisha Dadhwal, CPA, an alumna of the SABH Department, who was also invited to talk about tips to transition from student to professional life.
On the other hand, the STEM-H students also had their symposium on March 3, 2023, at the James Ter Meer Gymnasium. The speaker was the University Nurse, Ms. Ariane A. Cauan, who talked about first aid.
The program was spearheaded by Ms. Lovely Joy O. Ruiz, the overall focal person of the Work Immersion program of the Senior High School. She was assisted by the focal persons in charge of each strand, namely Mr. Darwin Dumlao for the STEM Non-Health strand, Mr. Bryan Arugay for the STEM-Health strand, and Mr. Marvin Talosig for the ABM strand.
The aim of the program is to expose students to a work-related environment that is related to their field of specialization. The university hopes that this will enhance students’ competence by giving them practical skills under the guidance of professionals in the field.
During the program, students are expected to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the importance and application of the principles and theories they have been taught in school. Additionally, the students will have an opportunity to enhance their technical knowledge and skills, enrich their communication and human relations skills, and develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation, and respect for work.
The students shall be deployed again for the Final Term on April 10 to May 12, 2023. They shall be assigned to the university’s partner agencies across Tuguegarao City.
The work immersion program is an excellent opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in their chosen field. It also provides an opportunity for students to connect with professionals in their respective fields. This program will surely be beneficial to all participating students, and this will eventually contribute to their overall academic success.
