Louisian STAR wins bronze in int’l math contest

A Grade 10 student of the University of Saint Louis (USL) brought home victory as she reaped a bronze medal during the Olympics Mathematics 3D Cup Pan-Asia Pacific International Invitation Competition (3D Cup PAP) in Macau, China, July 7-10, 2017.

Julie Anne Supeña was one among the Philippine representatives qualified to compete against eight other countries after joining the Mathematics Training Program conducted to prepare Philippine delegates for two international contests, one of which is the 3D Cup PAP.

Before the 3D Cup PAP, Supeña battled in another international Mathematics competition, the International Mathematics Wizard Challenge (IMWiC) in Xiamen, China, May 19-24, 2017, showing off the skills she acquired as a member of the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG), Philippines.

Mrs. Rosel Gannaban, Mathematics Coordinator of the USL Junior High School, said that Supeña’s victory is another blessing as Supeña is an addition to the number of USL High School students who competed internationally and came back home as winners.

“Julie Anne is just one of our students who continue to give pride not only to our University but also to our country,” she also said. “Truly, to God be the glory.”

Team Philippines garnered 22 bronze and two silver medals this year.
